Late Show with Stephen Colbert bandleader Jon Batiste made a surprise appearance during Tedeschi Trucks Band’s performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on Friday night. The New Orleans native and NOCCA graduate (Class of 2004) came out to help keyboardist Kofi Burbridge with “Bound for Glory” and a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” in the middle of their set. He then returned for the show’s encore, which consisted of a medley of Sly & The Family Stone covers.
Batiste has been making waves these past few months as the bandleader of the new Stephen Colbert-hosted Late Show. We caught up with him over the summer to discuss the new gig, his love for New Orleans and much more.
