Johnny Vidacovich, the acclaimed New Orleans-born jazz drummer, is set to perform at the Maple Leaf Bar alongside Oscar Rossignoli and Max Moran on June 1 at 8 p.m.
Vidacovich, best known as a member of the jazz quartet Astral Project with Tony Dagradi, James Singleton and Steve Masakowski, is renowned in New Orleans and worldwide for his drumming (and we love him for his musical and historical knowledge and quirky personality). Vidacovich has received 12 wins between 1997 and 2018 for OffBeat Magazine’s Best of the Beat Award for best drummer, as well as the Best of The Beat Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, to name a few.
Born in Honduras and based in New Orleans since 2014, Oscar Rossignoli is an accomplished pianist and composer in both jazz and classical music. Rossignoli earned his Masters from the University of New Orleans (UNO) music department and was recognized as a finalist for the Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Summer 2018 Competition, which is one of the largest competitions of its type in the world. His album, Inertia, was reviewed by OffBeat Magazine in 2021.
Moran is a Louisiana-born musician, composer and bassist best known as a member of the Bridge Trio. Moran was nominated for best bass player in OffBeat Magazine’s 2021-2022 Best of the Beat Awards. His work on Neospectric, a collaborative album between Neospectric and Moran, was reviewed by OffBeat in 2019.
Vidacovich has performed regularly at The Leaf on Thursday evenings as a trio member for many years, and has also played with Rossignoli and Moran as part of the trio at the Maple Leaf. Beginning in October 2022, the live performance streamed on the venue’s YouTube channel.
The 21-and-up performance will begin at 8 p.m., and tickets are available for purchase on the Maple Leaf Bar website for $15 with a $2 ticketing fee, or at the door for $20.
