Best Rock Artist nominee Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes will perform a two-night residency at the Maple Leaf on January 12 and 13 with some special guests. In celebration of recording both a new audio and a video release, the band has invited a handful of special guests to join in and offer fans two completely different nights of music.
On Friday, January 12, Mike Doussan, Brad Walker and John Paul Carmody will join them on stage. The following night, Saturday, January 13, Camile Baudoin, Harry Hardin and Greg Hicks will get in on the fun. The eclectic funk-rockers will showcase the sound they’ve honed over the past 16 years and seven albums, which drummer Andre Bohren says will be on full display during their two-night jaunt. “All of the guests for these shows have performed with us many times over the years in various settings, so we are sort of taking the best of what we’ve done in the past and putting it all together for these shows,” he tells OffBeat.com. Mike has been a close musical compatriot since the early days, Brad was a Dirty Note for several years, and John Paul Carmody sings with us whenever schedules align.” Furthermore, he explains, “Harry is a founding member of the Dirty Notes, so his presence opens up a lot of old school Sketch material. Greg has been playing with us off-and-on for 16 years and has been in Bonerama for a decade, and Camile is our old friend from the Radiators who blows everyone out of the water with his stellar guitar work…In short, Friday will lean more on the funk and improvising side of things, while Saturday will feature more of the rock vibe, although there will be a good mix for all on both nights.
“We are honored to be nominated for Best Rock Band and Best Rock Album in Offbeat’s Best of the Beat Awards,” he says before adding, “This seems to be a continuation of momentum we’ve had for the past year or so. Johnny Sketch is playing our 5th 610 Stomper Debutante Ball in a couple of weeks, which is always a blast of a party. We have touring plans for the first part of the year in place, as varied as Wyoming and Florida, and we are constantly working on new material, as well as many side projects that every member is involved in.”
