Saints fans, Ravens fans, and John “Papa” Gros fans will all have a good excuse to throw down this Sunday, November 23, at Little Gem Saloon.
In honor of Monday night’s Ravens vs. Saints game and to pay homage to Baltimore, a city that has hosted scores of New Orleans acts over the years, the keyboard player and former leader of Papa Grows Funk has organized a jam session at the Little Gem Saloon on North Rampart St. with Baltimore star Cris Jacobs.
Jacobs is the former frontman of Baltimore bluegrass/funk/blues jam band The Bridge and continues to make waves with his gritty guitar playing and emotive songwriting.
He currently performs with his Cris Jacobs Band and as a solo act, and he recently toured with Steve Winwood and Sturgill Simpson.
He’s been working on a project with Ivan Neville since 2012. The release date is still unknown, but such a collaboration is sure to produce some interesting material.
The local contingent participating in Sunday’s rootsy, funky soirée, besides Gros, will include percussionist Russ Broussard and bassist Carl Dufrene.
The fun(k) starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door and $10 in advance.
