Singer-songwriter and guitarist John Mayer will perform at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Wednesday August 9. He last performed in New Orleans when he headlined the same venue back in 2013, just a few months after taking the stage at Jazz Fest.
Unfortunately (at least in the eyes of this writer), Mayer will not be joined by Grateful Dead spin-off Dead & Company during his upcoming New Orleans stop. The project finds Mayer holding down the late Jerry Garcia’s lead guitar role with Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, plus keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and bassist Oteil Burbridge. While that group plans to skip New Orleans on their summer tour, Mayer will bring his solo show to the city when rolls through in August. However, recent solo gigs have found Mayer performing Grateful Dead favorites like “Going Down the Road Feeling Band” and “Friend of the Devil.”
In any case, Mayer is gearing up to release his seventh studio album, The Search for Everything, sometime this year. The new album marks his first studio effort since 2013’s Paradise Valley, so we should expect to hear a number of tracks from the forthcoming release when he hits the road this summer.
Tickets for John Mayer at the Smoothie King Center will go on sale to the general public this Saturday, March 3.
