Jerry Jumonville to be honored with memorial tribute at Buffa’s

Jerry Jumonville, a saxophonist whose work includes many collaborations with Dr. John and an appearance on Rod Stewart’s “Tonight’s the Night,” died earlier this month.

In August 2018, OffBeat.com reported on Jumonville’s failing health, which spurred the support of the local music community at a benefit concert that month. That event took place at Buffa’s Bar & Restaurant. Buffa’s will again be the site of an event in Jumonville’s honor, this time on December 21. According to organizers, the public is invited to attend from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to “hear stories from the many musicians who have played with him through the years.”

In 2014, OffBeat featured Jumonville in the “My Music” column, in which he said “I have a little following in New Orleans; people know Jumpin’ Jerry around here. They know they’re going to come hear a great show and it’s not real loud and not a bunch of foolishness. It’s going to be some nice, serious, but fun, music.”

Charitable donations will be part of the event, though those details are still being worked out. Buffa’s is located at 1001 Esplanade Ave.
