Japanese-American rapper and producer Lyrics Born turned to New Orleans for inspiration on his latest album, Real People.
The album was produced by Galactic’s Ben Ellman and Rob Mercurio and features the single “That’s It,” which was recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
In honor of the clear double-vinyl release, Lyrics Born has released an official music video for the single, which was written and directed by Jermaine Quiz of Jealous Monk.
“Lyrics Born has such a great voice and distinctive style,” Quiz said in a press release. “It was great to be a part of a collaboration featuring some of New Orleans and West Coast Legends.”
Quiz cast some of the best New Orleans musicians in the video, including Derrick Freeman, Donald Surtain and Drew Calhoun of Corey Henry’s Treme Funktet, and Matt Clark of Brassaholics, among others.
