Now, we all know that Jazz Fest during the day is an experience like none other in the world, but what New Orleanians and longtime Jazz Fest veterans will tell you is that Jazz Fest by Night is often where the most intimate, ethereal musical memories are made – inside the smaller independent New Orleans haunts, where that seemingly invisible magic happens.
Soul’d Out Productions, NOLAFUNK and Ampersand Events have teamed up to bring music heads with a thirst for the progressive, cutting edge, more underground sounds a set of late night shows during Jazz Fest week this year that deliver a few of the most sought after, of-the-moment jazz-fusion and hybrid, experimental artists to an intimate stage where they are paired with some of our favorite New Orleans musicians also producing new music teetering on that edge.
We’re pretty geeked about these shows, and you should be too… because we’re giving away a pair of tickets to each right now! Check out the details…
WEDNESDAY, MAY 1
The Black Angels with The Hot 8 Brass Band
+sg Native America and Arch Animals
9pm | 21+
@ Republic
At an Austin, TX meets New Orleans, LA sort of Jazz Fest rendez-vous, Austin’s The Black Angels and guests will play Republic. Founded in 2004, The Black Angels have been at the spearhead of the post-millennial psychedelic movement, picking up the mantle of their hometown’s long lysergic history and reinvigorating it with progressive political commentary and unrestrained creativity and ambition. Long hailed for their monumental live sets, The Black Angels will celebrate the arrival of Indigo Meadow with a major North American tour, making its New Orleans stop during Jazz Fest “Daze Between” week. The Black Angels’ most revelatory collection thus far, Indigo Meadow marks the Austin, Texas-based band’s fourth full-length release, following 2010’s acclaimed Phosphene Dream. Once again The Black Angels prove themselves the undisputed avatars of contemporary psychedelic rock, simultaneously exalting the genre’s kaleidoscopic past as they thrust it further into the future.
The Black Angels will be joined May 1 by the Hot 8 Brass Band, who are also celebrating the worldwide release of their latest full-length during Jazz Fest, Tombstone, the follow-up to their The Life & Times of… released just months ago also on Tru Thoughts Records.
Warming up the set are Native America (also hailing from Austin) and Arch Animals of the NOLA-based Chinquapin Records collective.
SATURDAY, MAY 4
Erykah Badu with Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey
Plus The Robert Glasper Experiment and The Hot 8 Brass Band
with very special guests, Donald Harrison & The Congo Square Nation

Need we say more about this line-up? This is going to be an incredible show!
