The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival will institute new rules in order to avoid the crowd-created gridlock that has plagued the event in past years, particularly during last year’s Elton John set.
The New Orleans Advocate reports that no chairs, blankets or tarps will be allowed on the dirt track that encircles the Fair Grounds, and that “standing room only” sections in front the Acura, Gentilly and Congo Square stages have been expanded.
According to the publication, large, elevated bleachers will also be added to the backl of the Acura Stage field and the side of the Congo Square field. The bleachers will be open to the general public on a first-come-first-serve basis, unlike the other bleachers that are only open to purchasers of premium tickets.
Jazz Fest organizer Quint Davis reportedly said that the new rules will, “make sure that we leave the highway open and everybody can get to every stage at any time.”
As previously reported, Jazz Fest unveiled more big news earlier today when it released the daily schedules–aka “the cubes”–for this year’s festival. The event, which is slated for April 22 – May 1, will feature headlining performances from Stevie Wonder, Neil Young with Promise of the Real, Paul Simon, Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, My Morning Jacket, Snoop Dogg, Van Morrison, Steely Dan, Beck, J. Cole, Flo Rida, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Gary Clark Jr., Bonnie Raitt, Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter and many more.
