Just days after the conclusion of the 49th annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, attended by over 450,000 people, organizers have announced the dates for its 50th anniversary in 2019.
April 26 through May 5 of next year will see the return of Jazz Fest, which this year served up a helluva production. Highlights noted by New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival include the Fats tribute from Bonnie Raitt, Jon Batiste, Irma Thomas, Davell Crawford, Al “lil fats” Jackson, the Fats Domino Orchestra and more; Jazz Fest debuts from an impressive variety of artists like David Byrne and Khalid; and, of course, the many stirring tributes to the late Charles Neville, particularly that made by his brother, Aaron.
One of our personal highlights was watching the incomparable Anita Baker perform. We will never forget the feeling of singing “Sweet Love” with thousands of other adoring fans as Ms. Baker stood in silence and awe. We were heartbroken when she announced it would be her final year of touring, and are forever grateful to Jazz Fest for immortalizing her forever.
