During the roll-out of the 2019 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger let it slip that the band would appear in town before any official announcement was made. It appears the trend will continue as it relates to next year’s Jazz Fest, as The Who’s lead guitarist Pete Townshend seems to have announced the legendary band will appear at the festival in 2020.
As reported by LiveMusicBlog.com, Townshend took to Instagram to make a video announcement detailing upcoming dates for The Who. In it, he says “Next April or May we’ll do the New Orleans Jazz Festival, I believe.”
Organizers of Jazz Fest 2020 have yet to publicly acknowledge Townshend’s statement. During last year’s Jazz Fest debacle — after the Rolling Stones canceled, and then replacements Fleetwood Mac canceled — there were unfounded reports stating that The Who would take the now infamous May 2 slot at the 50th annual festival in 2019.
In semi-related news, musicians have until tomorrow (October 1) to submit an application to perform at the 2020 New Orleans Jazz Festival.
