Jazz Fest 2013 Benefit Gala reunites The Glass House

For you big chiefs, high rollers and those who just plain love New Orleans music with a passion, this year’s Jazz & Heritage Festival Gala has a line-up that might brings tears to a few eyes. The theme is “Glass House Reunion,” commemorating that legendary club on South Saratoga Street in New Orleans’ Central City neighborhood; and featuring two of the city’s greatest brass ensembles: The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the Rebirth Brass Band, plus guest host Kermit Ruffins (who will more than likely bring his mighty horn). Proceeds from the Gala benefit the Don Jamison Heritage School of Music, the free education program of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation. The $500 ticket for the Gala also gets you admission to all seven days of Jazz Fest.

Glass House originals play 15th Annual Jazz Fest Benefit Gala & Tribute to famous New Orleans club, The Glass House

The Glass House saw many legendary nights of local music, one of which is commemorated in OffBeat’s story on the Dirty Dozen this month’s April issue here.  Writer Jay Mazza took special note in the article of a YouTube video of the Dirty Dozen playing Charlie Parker’s “Bongo Beep” at the famous club in 1982, check that exhilarating performance here.
