Singer/keyboardist and Dumpstaphunk leader Ivan Neville makes a surprise appearance in New York next month, on July 25th,, when he joins a handful of big names– including Living Colour’s Corey Glover and ex-Beach Boys member and Rolling Stones sideman Blondie Chaplin– in a tribute to the Rhinestone Cowboy himself, Glen Campbell.
The country legend went public two years ago about his battle with Alzheimer’s, and only recently wrapped up his farewell tour. The upcoming show at the Cutting Room in New York will be a benefit, sponsored by Music Cures to aid the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, and will feature a preview of the biopic that producer/director James Keach (of Walk the Line fame) is now making about Campbell. Campbell’s children Ashley and Shannon will play with their band Victoria Ghost, and Neville and the other guests will then sit in with headlining band the Young Presidents– whose bassist Mitch Kaneff’s family fund the Kaneff Foundation is underwriting the evening.
There is at least one musical connection, of course: Ivan’s uncle Art Neville sang lead on this Glen Campbell classic when he recorded it with the Meters.
