Grammy Award-winning New Orleans trumpeter Irvin Mayfield hosts his fourth annual Love Sessions once again this August. This year’s sessions, dubbed “A Festival of Giving,” will begin Friday, August 23 and run through Thursday, August 29 for seven nights of music and of course, giving, at Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse inside the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Bourbon Street.

Last year, NOJO reported that the third annual “Love Sessions” raised over $80,000 for local charities and non-profits. Proceeds from this year’s concerts will benefit seven different local organizations: The New Orleans Public Library Foundation, Legacy Foundation & Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.), Eden House, UNITY of Greater New Orleans, Son of a Saint Sports Foundation, Louisiana Children’s Museum and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO).
The 2013 Love Sessions line-up will feature Mayfield with the Jazz Playhouse Revue including trombonists, Vincent Garber, Jason Marshall, and Michael Watson, plus tenor saxophonist, Edward “Sweatbread” Petersen and drummer, Gerald French. This all-star showcase will also host Davell Crawford, Jason Marsalis, Glen David Andrews, Evan Christopher and more. With a performance roster like this, it’s no wonder the opening night event to benefit the New Orleans Public Library is already sold out.
