The pre-Jazz Fest Wednesday at the Square concert yesterday featured Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse Revue. The trumpeter brought out many guests who are regularly featured at his Bourbon Street club in the Royal Sonesta Hotel, including Sasha Masakowski, Trixie Minx, Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown (and his toddler son), Michael Watson, Evan Christopher, David Torkanowsky, Shannon Powell, and Don Vappie. Students from the New Orleans Jazz Institute Saturday Music School also performed along Mayfield and his band. Next week’s Wednesday at the Square show will feature blues pianist Marcia Ball with opener Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue.
