Indie rock pioneers The Shins add New Orleans concert

The Shins will perform at Civic Theatre in New Orleans on Tuesday, November 14. The indie rock pioneers will be will touring in support of their fifth studio album, Heartworms, when the swing through the city this fall.

Led by frontman James Mercer, The Shins helped develop the modern indie rock sound in the early 2000s with their Sub Pop Records releases Oh, Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow. The band’s popularity skyrocketed after their songs “New Slang” and “Caring Is Creepy” received prominent placements in the 2004 film Garden State and its soundtrack, earning them mainstream success that carried over to release of their hit 2007 album Wincing The Night Away. The Shins then went on hiatus for a number of years before Mercer reformed the group with a new lineup for their fourth album, 2012’s Port of Morrow.

The band’s current lineup finds Mercer joined by Yuuki Matthews (bass), Jon Sortland (drums), Mark Watrous (guitar, keys, vocals), Casey Foubert (guitar) and Patti King (keys). Their most recent record, Heartworms, was released in March. It was produced by former member Richard Swift.

Tickets for The Shins’ New Orleans concert will go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 9 at 10am.
