Ignition Festival, a Burning Man-inspired extravaganza that debuted last year, will return to New Orleans East from November 10 to 13. The event, which is hosted by the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus, will once again showcase an array of themed camps, off-kilter art installations and musical offerings.
Much like Burning Man, last year’s edition of the festival featured a massive controlled burn to mark the climax of the celebration. However, rather than lighting a wooden human on fire, Ignition opted to set a 27-ft. tall wicker wookie ablaze instead. This year will be no different, as the festival plans to put 42-ft. tall pyramid to the flames on Saturday, November 12.
The theme for the second annual Ignition Festival will be “Key to the Cosmos.” According to its Facebook page, the event will be “exploring the theme of Cosmic Synchronicity. What is humankind’s place on planet Earth and what is our destiny in the Stars? Why are we here and where are we going? All will be Illuminated.”
Ignition Festival is currently accepting proposals for interactive art installations and the camps, as well as applications for performers. Interested parties can apply for art grants via the festival’s website.
