Mardi Gras is fast approaching, and with it comes a number of late night shows. In keeping with tradition, Howlin’ Wolf will once again host a series of post-parade concerts on the days preceding Fat Tuesday.
The Rebirth Brass Band will hold things down on Friday, February 24 and Saturday February 25. Young guns Sexual Thunder will also be on hand for an opening set on Saturday night.
Dumpstaphunk will lead the party in the main room on Sunday, February 26, while the Hot 8 Brass Band will do their thing in the adjacent Howlin’ Wolf Den.
Finally, Big Sam’s Funky Nation will close out the festivities with a Lundi Gras performance on Monday, February 27. Jazz-funk ensemble Naughty Professor will support with an opening set.
Tickets for Howlin’ Wolf’s Mardi Gras shows are now on sale for a reasonable $5, though the price will increase to $10 in February. Four-night passes are also available for $15, with the price rising to $25 in February.
In related news, Howlin’ Wolf picked up two awards at last night’s Best of the Beat Business Awards. The venue was honored with the Best Club Award, and Howie Kaplan and Stu Schayot named Best Club Owner/Manager.
