The Hot 8 Brass Band announced they’d be performing on The Bossman Tour 2023 to honor late co-founder and sousaphone player Bennie Pete.
The tour begins with their May 4 date at the Jazz and Heritage Festival before hitting Europe for 15 dates until returning to the states with a show in Brooklyn, NY, Somerville MA and a homecoming show on June 10 at the New Orleans House of Blues.
Pete died on September 6, 2021, due to sarcoidosis and COVID-19-related complications. In a statement, the band said “He was an inspiration to our band and to many other musicians, and the entire musical and cultural community. He helped each and every one of us, from our horn players to the folks dancing in the second lines and to the entire New Orleans community, during the most difficult and darkest times.”
Hot 8 Brass Band is a well-known local brass band that worked with artists like Lauryn Hill, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and the Blind Boys.
Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m., Friday, February 24. For more information and tickets to The Bossman Tour 2023, visit the link here.
