To celebrate 25 years of dedicated service to the Louisiana Gulf Coast and its wildlife, the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana will host their “Party for the Coast” this Thursday, June 13 at Generations Hall. The party will feature live and silent auctions and a performance from Louisiana’s own bayou rockers the Honey Island Swamp Band. There will also be free food from Tony Chachere’s and Deanie’s Seafood, as well as free Abita beer all night long.
Since its founding in 1988, the non-profit Coalition has fought to protect and restore the Lousiana gulf coast and its wealth of flora and fauna. In the past decade alone, with the damage wrought both by Hurricane Katrina and the BP Oil Spill, the Coalition has had its work cut out for it. The Party for the Coast will celebrate the past achievements and benefit its future projects.
And what band could be better to celebrate with than the Honey Island Swamp Band? Founded in 2005 by Aaron Wilkinson and Chris Mule, two New Orleans musicians marooned in San Francisco by Katrina, HISB has grown into a five piece force to be reckoned with. With their timeless sound that includes airtight harmonies and a rock-solid rhythm section, HISB has won numerous OffBeat Best of the Beat awards, including “Best Emerging Artist” in 2009 and “Best Roots Rocks Artist” in 2010. Get a dose of Honey Island in our review of Cane Sugar, the band’s latest album, here.
Tickets to the Party for the Coast are $25.00 and are available at here. All proceeds will go to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.
