Hogs for the Cause has announced a new fundraiser taking place in Charleston, South Carolina, on October 4th, 2014.
Dubbed “Holy City Hogs,” the event will be held at The Grove at Patriots Point. While the event is still in the planning stages, Drive-By Truckers have been announced as headliners and six to eight pitmasters have already been lined up to sell barbecue for charitable donations.
“We are excited to host this first annual event in Charleston, and as a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, I’m looking forward to getting back, giving back and making some more great memories,” Co-Founder Becker Hall said in a press release. “It is especially important to recognize that money raised at Holy City Hogs will benefit families in the Greater Charleston area and those seeking treatment at the Medical University of South Carolina.”
Started in 2008 by Hall and Rene Louapre, Hogs for the Cause was established to financially support the families of children fighting brain cancer. With the annual fundraiser held in New Orleans’ City Park, the charity has been able to provide grants to over 100 families battling pediatric brain cancer.
“When families are struck with the news that their child has brain cancer they often do not think about how they will continue to pay for the everyday expenses that aren’t covered by insurance,” Louapre said. “That is where Hogs for the Cause comes in to keep them afloat.”
In addition to the fundraiser planned for Charleston, Hogs for the Cause has made a $25,000 donation to the new Children’s Hospital at The Medical University of South Carolina that will be used towards amenities in the pediatric oncology bone marrow transplant facility.
