This year’s Hogs for the Cause event will feature more than a dozen national and local music acts on two stages. The event, which will take place on Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29 in City Park, has helped raise money to provide grants to more than 100 families dealing with the effects of pediatric brain cancer since 2008.
Hogs for the Cause has been expanding steadily since the first relatively small cochon de lait six years ago. This year, 90 teams of barbeque masters will compete for the top honors, but the event isn’t just about the food.
Country star Pat Green, Southern rock/blues band North Mississippi Allstars, and New York rock band The Hold Steady will headline Saturday’s musical lineup. New Orleans funk masters Dumpstaphunk take the stage Friday night along with Mississippi septuplet Rosco Bandana and local progressive funk band Earphunk.
Rounding out the Saturday lineup are February OffBeat cover stars Hurray for the Riff Raff, Houndmouth, Benjamin Booker, the Colin Lake Band, Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs, the Treme Brass Band, and Naughty Professor.
Only in New Orleans would an outdoor festival in a park designed to raise money for a 501(c)(3) organization turn into such a must-see musical event.
“The music festival aspect of this event is huge for us,” Becker Hall, who co-founded Hogs for the Cause with Rene Louapre, said in a press release. “By being able to secure nationally recognized bands, Hogs for the Cause has been able to grow to a nationally recognized event, bringing in people from all over the country.”
Tickets range from $15 for a one day pass to $150 for a gala pass. You can order them online here.
