The late piano legend Henry Butler will be memorialized with a second-line parade and concert later this month.
Led by the New Orleans Nightcrawlers, the second line takes place on Sunday, October 21. Open to the public, the parade will make brief stops at various bars in which Butler played throughout his life. It will end at Snug Harbor on Frenchmen Street, where a memorial concert will take places. Performers include Davell Crawford, Tom McDermott, Josh Paxton, Larry Sieberth and some surprises.
The route for the second line is as follows:
Beginning at old Funky Butt Club site (714 N. Rampart); turn at old Donna’s Bar & Grill (800 N. Rampart) onto St. Ann into the Quarter; turn left onto Chartres; right onto Esplanade Ave to the start of Frenchmen Street, where a brief stop will be made at Station 9 Firehouse and continue on to Snug Harbor for the memorial show. Things kick off at 6 p.m.
Those interested in only attending the Snug Harbor show should note that event begins at 8 p.m. $15 tickets are available here. New York City fans will have the opportunity to celebrate Henry Butler on October 29, when a bevy of New Orleans all-stars will perform in his honor.
