As longtime OffBeat readers know, the multi-talented Bunny Matthews created cartoons for the magazine (Vic and Nat’ly) and others, wrote for OffBeat and was the magazine’s editor until Hurricane Katrina closed us down temporarily in the fall of 2005.
Bunny Matthews continued his artwork and cartoons, but 10 years post-Katrina, he became victim to CNS-lymphoma. His wife Debbie also fell victim to cancer and died in 2018. After surgery and several bouts of chemo and remission, Bunny’s cancer returned. He has chosen not to continue treatment and is in hospice. The New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic has created a fund for Matthews’ end-of-life costs at the request of his son, Jude Matthews. Click here to donate.
