The New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) is inviting residents to an event that combines public health services with the city’s iconic jazz culture. Titled “Healthy Notes in Harmony: Flu Shots and Jazz with Nurse Nanci,” the evening aims to provide flu vaccinations and raise awareness about seasonal health concerns.
The event will take place on Thursday, December 12, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Three Muses, located at 536 Frenchmen Street in New Orleans. This free event is open to all, offering flu vaccinations with no need for insurance or prior appointments. Alongside health services, attendees will enjoy live jazz performed by Nurse Nanci Zhang, MPH, RN—a dedicated public health nurse and accomplished jazz singer.
The event is part of NOHD’s broader Vax & Go campaign, which focuses on increasing vaccination rates to address rising flu cases during the holiday season. Nurse Nanci will be on-site to administer flu shots and entertain guests with a live jazz performance, making this initiative as culturally enriching as it is practical. Guests can also access educational materials about flu prevention and other health services provided by the department.
While the spotlight is on flu vaccinations, NOHD is also emphasizing the importance of COVID-19 protection. Updated COVID-19 boosters are available at local pharmacies for those with Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. For uninsured individuals, boosters can be accessed at Genoa Pharmacy, located at 2221 Philip Street in New Orleans. NOHD encourages residents to take advantage of these resources to protect themselves and their loved ones during the colder months, when respiratory illnesses are more prevalent.
NOHD officials hope the combination of music, community, and accessible healthcare will inspire more residents to prioritize their health this season. Flu vaccinations are particularly important during the holidays, as increased travel and gatherings create opportunities for the virus to spread. Events like this aim to make getting vaccinated a convenient and enjoyable experience for all.
