Services for late jazz master and New Orleans music pioneer Harold Battiste, Jr. will be held on Thursday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to noon at Christian Unity Baptist Church on Conti Street.
Jesse McBride, who took over The Next Generation, an innovative New Orleans jazz band founded by Battiste, announced the services today on Facebook.
McBride will also host a tribute to Battiste at Julius Kimbrough’s Prime Example Jazz Club on Broad Street on Wednesday, June 24, during The Next Generation’s regularly scheduled performance.
McBride said in the announcement that Wednesday night’s tribute will showcase Battiste’s Silver Book series.
“All people especially musicians, former students, and friends are welcomed,” McBride wrote.
