WWOZ brilliantly brought Jazz Fest to us “in place” this year, and they’re working up a tribute New Orleans’ Soul Queen, Irma Thomas, on Mother’s Day.
This Sunday, May 10th, would have been Irma Thomas’s 37th annual Mother’s Day performance at the Audubon Zoo. Since the concert isn’t being held this year, WWOZ is keeping up this New Orleans Mother’s Day tradition by paying tribute to the Soul Queen of New Orleans on the air, playing highlights from performances by Irma aired on WWOZ in the past, from festivals, our studios, and other events.
This special salute to Irma Thomas, will air from 12 noon to 2 p.m. this Sunday, on WWOZ 90.7 FM in New Orleans. Because Irma never mixes her gospel and R&B materials, the set at noon will be a Gospel set; after a brief break, the second half, with R&B performances at roughly 1 p.m.
