For the second year in a row, award-winning New Orleans radio station WWOZ 90.7 FM will host a concert fundraiser. An indoor mini-festival, the event supports WWOZ’s coverage of New Orleans music for a worldwide audience of millions.
September 5’s Groove Gala will feature performances from Irma Thomas, Lena Prima, Amanda Shaw, Storyville Stompers, Doreen Ketchens, Gerald French, John “Papa” Gros and Al “Lil’ Fats” Jackson. The party takes place at Dickie Brennan’s Tableau and Le Petit Theatre from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
There, three stages of music will operate from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will also be a main stage showcase at Le Petit Theatre beginning at 8 p.m. Attendees will be served a Dickie Brennan’s Tableau dinner, plus open bars and mango freeze. The evening’s events will conclude with “dessert and dancing” with tunes spun by DJ Brice Nice. WWOZ is asking folks to come dressed in their “best fest attire,” so sun hats and comfortable clothing are encouraged.
An addition to this year’s Groove Gala is the “Groove Gala Oasis” on Tableau’s first floor. There, VIP ticket holders will have access to a special menu and wine personally selected by Dickie Brennan. There will also be intimate live performances and reserved seating for the Le Petit Theatre performance.
