Greensky Bluegrass and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe are the latest acts to announce after shows for this year’s Jazz Fest, which is slated to take place April 28-30 and May 4-7.
Greensky Bluegrass will return to New Orleans for a show at the House of Blues on Saturday, May 6, roughly six months after they headlined a show at the Joy Theater this past October. Joshua Davis will support with an opening set.
Seeing as the band headlined Hogs for the Cause in April of in 2016, the upcoming show will mark their third New Orleans concert in a little over a year. The five-piece bluegrass jam band is currently touring in support of their latest album, Shouted, Written Down & Quoted.
“I was talking to Corey [Henry] from Galactic about how New Orleans has its own thing going on where he can get together with anyone on any given night and play 100 different tunes without even thinking about it,” dobro player Anders Beck told us in September. “Bluegrass is like that too. We were laughing about how I couldn’t do it in his genre and he couldn’t do it in mine, but it works out that way. New Orleans is an amazing city and we’re psyched to go back.”
Additionally, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe has announced an intimate post-Fest show at One Eyed Jacks for Saturday, April 29. The date is now the third Jazz Fest gig on KDTU’s schedule, though Denson himself will also perform with his longtime band The Greyboy Allstars while he’s in town. KDTU is currently slated to play a late night set at Tipitina’s on Friday, April 28 (the 2am show technically starts early Saturday morning) and a special “Exile on Bourbon Street” show at the Orpheum Theatre on Friday, May 5 with special guests like Luther Dickinson and Ivan Neville.
Tickets for Greensky Bluegrass’ show at the House of Blues New Orleans will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 10, while tickets for KDTU at One Eyed Jack’s are already available.
