The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music continues to be a good source for local music, including some that doesn’t normally play in club venues. Case in point: The Center has been doing a monthly series on New Orleans gospel, which continues this Tuesday, August 6 with the group George and Church Friends. Led by George Potts Young, the group is indeed a connection of singer from different churches and musical backgrounds, who came together through shared beliefs and friendship. In addition, fans of first-class jazz singing will want to be there later this month when Germaine Bazzle and Leah Chase team up with pianist Lawrence Sieberth and his trio.
Both shows begin at 7 p.m. and general admission is $3, with reserved seating available for $35. The Marsalis Center for Music is at 1901 Bartholomew Street (map), 504-940-3400.
