The 2018 GetUpNRide Community Bike Fest takes place this weekend and with it, a celebration of the growing diverse bicycle community in New Orleans. On Saturday, April 21, the second annual BikeFest is an extension of the weekly Tuesday GetUpNRide social ride, organized in part by hip-hop artist O.G. Blake Owens. Taking place along the historic Bayou Road from 4-8 p.m., GetUpNRide Community Bike Fest features live music, too. Performers include former OffBeat cover artist Mia Borders, Allie Baby, Tonya Boyd Cannon, Ariee, Sarayah and O.G. Blake Owens.
Owens, who recently spoke with OffBeat Radio about his work with GetUpNRide, tells OffBeat.com, “we want all bikers to come together on Saturday for the love of biking, no matter how different we all are. This celebration emphasizes the importance of community by highlighting the well-known small businesses that have been operating here for a long time. We will have a variety of interesting vendors, best bike contests and activities, great local food, and of course live performances from some of the dopest artists our city has produced. It’s simply a family-friendly good time with nothing but good vibes.”
