The much-anticipated Oak Street Po-Boy Festival will return this Sunday, November 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oak Street between Carrollton and Eagle Streets.
Attendees can honor the festival’s mission of venerating “the humble po-boy” by sampling delicious sandwiches from Ms. Linda’s Soul Food, Jack Dempsey’s, Original New Orleans Po-Boys, and over 30 other beloved local restaurants.
All kinds of food trucks, beverage tents, and art vendors will add to the excitement and local flavor, and all of your purchases will help with the festival’s second stated purpose of revitalizing the Oak Street business corridor.
In particular, be sure to pick up a copy of this year’s festival poster, designed by famed New Orleans artist and Oak Street fixture Frenchy.
No celebration in New Orleans is complete without outstanding music, and accordingly, there are some really incredible acts slated to perform Sunday: Rebirth Brass Band, John “Papa” Gros, Theresa Andersson with Cris Jacobs, Carl Dufrene & Russ Broussard, Amanda Shaw & the Cute Guys, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, and more.
The festival is also supporting a “Family Fest” on the same day, designed to make the day easier on families with young children. Located at the nearby St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, it will include babysitting, kids activities, musical performances, changing tables, and nursing stations. It runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $5 for the day.
As there will be no reserved public parking, it’s highly recommended to bike, take the streetcar, or take the bus, the latter two of which have stops conveniently located near the festival.
Outside food and beverages are prohibited, but pets are welcome!
