At the Old U.S. Mint from December 13-15, New Orleans drum master, Galactic’s Stanton Moore will hold the first Spirit of New Orleans Drum Camp. Those who attend the three-day, $750 seminar will receive intensive instruction from renowned drummer Moore in a classroom setting. The course will focus on the evolution of New Orleans rhythms, building from the Mardi Gras Indian and second line traditions up to contemporary jazz and funk. As part of the package, participants will receive a private tour of facility’s “New Orleans Jazz” exhibit as well as discounted admission to Dragon Smoke’s show at Tipitina’s on December 13 and the Stanton Moore Piano Trio’s show at Snug Harbor on the following evening.
The Soul Rebels Brass Band will also partake in the program. Attendees will be able to sit-in with the ensemble on bass and snare drums during a segment concentrating on second line rudiments. The clinic’s finale will include a concert from the Soul Rebels featuring Moore and the Spirit of New Orleans Drum Camp. Tickets for this concert are $15, available to the general public and can be purchased online.
