Singer Maggie Koerner is leaving Galactic to work on another project. According to management, she will not appear with the band on New Year’s Eve at Tipitina’s.
Galactic bass player Robert Mercurio told OffBeat writer Brett Milano the band has gotten into the habit of shaking things up by rotating in new singers.
“Introducing a new vocalist is one of the things that keeps our chemistry fresh,” Mercurio said. “When you’ve been a band for 20 years, it’s good to have a little reinvention once in a while.”
The band hasn’t released the name of the singer who will take Koerner’s place, only saying that it will be an “amazing artist” and a female.
But “Maggie and Galactic are on great terms; she’s with the band on the road right now and is planning on performing with the band again in the future when it makes sense. She is taking the first half of 2015 to focus on her own project but the door is open for her to collaborate with Galactic down the road and it’s unlikely that any of these performances will be her last with the band,” said Ryan Chavez of HUKA Entertainment,
