Black Sabbath will get the funk treatment at the Howlin’ Wolf in New Orleans this Friday night, when a number of musicians join forces for a funky tribute to the hard rock pioneers.
Funk Sabbath will feature a core band of Living Colour singer Corey Glover, Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist Eric McFadden, Jack White drummer Daru Jones, vibraphonist/percussionist Mike Dillon, Living Colour bassist Doug wimbish and producer/rapper Jermaine Quiz.
The group will be joined by a number of special guests throughout the show, including Big Sam, Galactic drummer Stanton Moore, North Mississippi Allstars guitarist Luther Dickinson, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue guitarist Peter Murano, Dirty Dozen Brass Band drummer Terence Higgins, Cole Williams, delphine de St. Paër and a “very special” unannounced guest.
Snake dancer Charlottle Treuse will also perform, while Corey Henry’s Treme Funktet will pay tribute to the music of Led Zeppelin during the opening set.
Additionally, the event will double as a costume party, and there will be prizes for the bests dressed attendees.
The Funk Sabbath show will take place the night before Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler team up with Tom Morello and Slash for a special headlining Halloween performance at the Voodoo Music + Art Experience. The popular music festival will return to New Orleans’ City Park October 30-November 1, and will include sets from Zac Brown Band, Florence + The Machine, Jack Ü, Deadmau5, Steve Angello, Modest Mouse, Jane’ Addiction and many more.
Funk Sabbath is one of a few official Voodoo Music + Art Experience after shows that are being put on under the Deja Voodoo moniker. Other Deja Voodoo shows include Joey Bada$$ and the Soul Rebels at House of Blues on October 29, The Growlers at One Eyed Jacks on October 30, Quintron & Miss Pussycat at One Eyed Jacks on October 31 and Peaches at One Eyed Jacks on October 31.
