Funeral Arrangements Announced for Earl Bernhardt

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Earl Bernhardt, who died of natural causes on Saturday, December 5 at the age of 80.

Bernhardt, co-owner with Pam Fortner of the Tropical Isle bars on Bourbon Street, the Bourbon Street Honky Tonk (formerly Funky Pirate), the Orleans Grapevine, and creators of the famous  Hand Grenade® drink, will be honored in New Orleans on Monday December 16, “the city he loved.”

There will visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Omni Royal Orleans, 621 St. Louis Street, with a service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. A jazz funeral with second line will follow starting at the hotel and continuing to Tropical Isle, 721 Bourbon, with reception/party celebrating Bernhardt’s life to follow.

A second service will take place at Mr. Bernhardt’s church in Petal, MS. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., with service following at 2 p.m. Burial to follow at Hillcrest.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to the Petal First Baptist Church, 992 Hwy. 42, Petal, MS 39465 () or to the Holy Cross Anglican School, P. O. Box 59, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize, a school for the poorest children in Belize which was supported by Bernhardt and Fortner.
