FREEWATER, the creative team behind some of the most popular events in New Orleans, has announced details of its debut block party.
Taking place Saturday, September 28 in the Lower Garden District, the FREEWATER Block Party will feature live performances from prominent national talent in rap and electronic music. DaBaby, Rico Nasty, Shordie Shordie and Grip will make appearances, as will RL Grime, What So Not, Graves and TVBOO. There will also be homegrown talent on the bill, with performances from Mhadi G, Kenneth Brother, Trigem (Spicy Bois), Stone Cold Jzzle, Lango and Nameless.
Produced in partnership with Winter Circle Productions, the FREEWATER Block Party will have two stages, art installations, exclusive merchandise and the “custom interactive experiences” that have made FREEWATER events unique. The crew, spearheaded by Frankie Watts and Dominic “Mardi” Byrd, just wrapped up a debut at Bonnaroo, where FREEWATER curated a camping plaza called Bayou Libre.
“Everything we’ve done to this day… the videos, the photo shoots, the parties, the clothing lines… it’s all been leading up to this,” said Mardi. “It’s about to pop off and be the catapult for the next era of FREEWATER.”
“We’ve worked with the visionaries at FREEWATER in various ways over the past few years to bridge the gap between the dance and rap scenes in New Orleans and are stoked to finally be going big with them,” said Dante DiPasquale, talent buyer for Winter Circle Productions, BASSIK and BUKU. “We’re excited to help turn their creative vision for the block party into reality.”
Upbeat Academy Foundation will be the recipient of partial proceeds raised by the Block Party, for which pre-sale tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 24. On Friday, July 26, tickets go on sale to the general public.
