If you were at the Earth Day show at Bayou St. John last weekend you don’t need to be told how energizing a Dumpstaphunk set can be; Ivan Neville and the crew played a sizzling 90 minutes that included a workout on George Clinton’s “One Nation Under a Groove.” If you haven’t seen the band lately you’ll have plenty of chances in the next week; they’re playing a round of shows that will include a Jazz Fest set on Saturday, April 27 and a 10th anniversary show, with some of their funky friends, at Tipitina’s on May 5.
Along with its 10th anniversary, the band is celebrating the release of its second full-length CD, Dirty Word. The album will have a limited release at Jazz Fest and then see a full release in June, but the band’s making the title track available as an exclusive free download right here. If the female voice sounds familiar that’s because it’s Ani DiFranco, one of a few surprise guests on the album.
