This Saturday, Joey K’s will face Ma Momma’s House of Cornbread, Chicken, and Waffles in the championship showdown for Krewe of Red Beans’ Bean Madness 2018. Last year’s winner, chef Cedrick Lewis, was ousted in the semi-finals last week (as were other competitors Tracy’s Irish Channel Bar, Three Muses, Chef D’z Cafe, The Old Coffee Pot and Toula’s Creole Cafe) where the two remaining contenders showed off their culinary skills to move on to this weekend’s big event.

Both Joey K’s and Ma Momma’s House have won five consecutive single-elimination-taste-tests since the tournament began on March 3, according to Bean Madness organizers. As winner of the Uptown Region for the second year in a row, Joey K’s was eliminated in the semi-final contest last year. Ma Momma’s House of Cornbread, Chicken, and Waffles beat out Lewis with a single-vote margin, and is also the champion of the N.O. East/Mid City Region bracket.

As previously reported by OffBeat, the Championship cook-off and party takes place at the Southern Food & Beverage Museum, where Margie Perez and Muevelo, plus WWOZ’s DJ Alsky and the children of Make Music NOLA will perform live. Tickets for the Bean Madness 2018 Championship range from $15 to $50 and are available here.
