Since it seems we just can’t enough of the fantastic independent and rare film screenings around town by the New Orleans Film Society, and since one annual film festival is apparently not enough… we are excited to take in several of the films NOFS has on the schedule this year for their fairly new Film-O-Rama series, which now takes place each spring – a sort of less intense counter-part to their nationally recognized fall destination, the New Orleans Film Festival.
If we’re all gearing up to kick off festival season officially this weekend with the French Quarter Festival and shortly thereafter digest even more music by the ton, we might as well buff up on our indie film this week before the music fests kick in, eh? We are especially geeked to check out the gentrification documentary, “My Brooklyn,” the portrait of iconic pop culture photographer and American advertising mogul, “Bert Stern: Original Madman,” the anticipated Jack Kerouac biopic, “On The Road,” the only-in-New-Orleans account of Councilwoman Stacy Head’s re-election trail of race in America, “Getting Back to Abnormal” and of course, the story of the infamous “Sound City” recording studio in San Fernando, California in Dave Grohl’s film of the same name.
The New Orleans Film Society, in partnership with the Prytania Theatre, presents a week-long spring showcase of new foreign, independent and documentary film April 5 – 11 at the Prytania Theatre (Uptown).
Tickets to all screenings are $10 for NOFS members or $11 general admission. Advance tickets can be purchased in person at the Prytania Theatre box office (5339 Prytania Street) or online at the Prytania’s website.
