Yes, it’s Jazz Fest time… Not that Jazz Fest just yet, but the annual jazz festival held by Xavier University. This year’s events begin on Tuesday, April and are all free. That evening is “Traditional Jazz Night” with a show at the US Mint by Dr. Michael White and his Original Liberty Brass Band. Dr. White recently released two acclaimed volumes of Adventures in New Orleans Jazz. On Wednesday, same time and place, it’s “Contemporary Jazz Day” featuring trombone master Delfeayo Marsalis. Both White and Marsalis will appear at “Clinic Workshop Day” at Xavier on the 18 with White teaching traditional jazz techniques and Marsalis contemporary jazz improvisation. That night at 7 p.m. is another concert at the Mint featuring Xavier’s own jazz ensemble with guest soloist Donald Harrison.
