On the heels of Beyoncé’s fierce Super Bowl XLVII halftime spot comes the news that her “Mrs. Carter Show World Tour” is adding a performance at the 19th annual ESSENCE Festival, held July 4-7 in New Orleans.
Queen Bey last played ESSENCE in 2009, and in 2005 as a member of Destiny’s Child.
Younger sis Solange Knowles and Trey Songz have also been added to the event’s Mainstage talent roster, joining previously announced acts Jill Scott, Maxwell, New Edition, Charlie Wilson, Keyshia Cole, LL Cool J and Brandy at the Superdome over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
More acts will be announced as the event nears; tickets are now available.
In other festival news, the lineup for this year’s edition of the Hangout Music Fest is out. Running May 17-19 on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Ala., the 2013 event will feature headliners Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Kings of Leon (a third headliner will be announced shortly).
