As festivals and live music venues in New Orleans continue to battle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Faubourg Brewery is teaming up with Front Porch Gigs to celebrate and support local musicians in a free, Americana-themed showcase at the brewery’s expansive and family-friendly, 15-acre outdoor facility over Labor Day weekend.
Masks are required inside the brewery taproom when not eating or drinking in adherence to state and local mandates.
“When large festivals and events began to cancel again, local musicians were stripped of yet another lifeline,” said Jim Birch, general manager of Faubourg Brewery. “Our massive outdoor space offers a safe, socially-distanced space for families to come out and enjoy free live music while supporting our musicians.”
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Faubourg Brewing Co. has partnered with Front Porch Gigs with a mission to safely host live music and help connect local artists to find gigs at a time when so many venues and the livelihood of musicians were in crisis. Founded by Aaron Wilkinson of Honey Island Swamp Band, Front Porch Gigs was created by Wilkinson at the onset of the pandemic to pivot his own career as a musician in order to help other artists find small-scale gigs during the crisis. “Partnering with Faubourg Brewery gave us the physical space and artistic freedom to present so many artists we wouldn’t have been able to help on our own,” said Wilkerson “It’s been a godsend.”
Faubourg Brewery will showcase an all-Americana themed lineup from Friday, September 3, through Sunday, September 5, called “Americana on Tap.” The weekend will feature a talented lineup of musicians performing everything from honky tonk and bluegrass to country, and blues. This free event will also feature a craft and makers’ market hosted by Bayou Yacht Club, a range of new beers on tap, tasty food vendors, and yard games for kids.
Starting on Friday, September 3, at 6 p.m., Americana on Tap kicks off with Cardboard Cowboy on a kid-friendly night complete with a free bounce house available for children from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The lineup for Saturday, September 4, includes:
11:30 a.m. | Tanglers Open Jam Session
1:30 p.m. | Desert Nudes
3:30pm | Grayson Capps Bands
5:30pm | Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue
The lineup for Sunday, September 5, includes:
11:30am | Tanglers Open Jam Session
1:30pm | Cary Hudson and the Piney Woods Players
3:30pm | Honey Island Swamp Country Breakdown
5:30pm | Texas Hill
To complement the musical acts, Faubourg Brewing offers a diverse range of beers on tap, including its flagship Faubourg Lager and newcomer Golden Cypress Wheat Ale, and cocktails that feature its own locally made hard seltzer. The food menu from Fete au Fete, the in-house dining partner, features clever takes on traditional pub food like beer-battered fish tacos as well as local cuisine favorites like muffulettas. In addition to the in-house offerings, Saturday and Sunday will host several local food, art, and craft vendors for customers to patronize.
The New Orleans East brewery will continue to host weekly, free live music throughout fall on Friday evenings and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. To see all artists performing, visit faubourgbrewery.com or see their weekly line up posted on social media (@faubourgbeer).
