The Experience Hendrix Tour will return to New Orleans for a stop at the Saenger Theatre on Wednesday, March 15.
The multi-artist celebration of the life and music of Jimi Hendrix will feature performances by a top-notch lineup of guitar masters, including Buddy Guy, Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Dweezil Zappa, Mato Nanji, and Ana Popovic. Additionally, Billy Cox, bassist for Band of Gypsys and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Chris Layton, drummer for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, will anchor the rhythm section.
Wylde, who named his own son “Hendrix,” spoke about being on the road with the Experience Hendrix Tour. “When you listen to all the fellas and the gals that are out there on the tour, it isn’t just the great solos. They are great songs, you know. It’s not just about shredding. I’m totally honored to be part of it.”
“The music of Jimi Hendrix has always been a large influence on my life and music — in no small part due to his blues roots. He showed a lot of his influences and the foundation from which he built his music,” says Shepherd. “Jimi Hendrix was one of the greatest performers, entertainers and songwriters of all time, but as far as the guitar goes, he made a statement with his instrument that has yet to be matched.”
Experience Hendrix last came to New Orleans earlier this year, when it brought Guy, Shepherd, Zappa, Wylde, Lang, Cox, Layton and Eric Johnson to the Saenger. However, next year’s edition will be a bit different as 2017 marks a year of Hendrix-related 50th anniversaries. 1967 saw the release of the the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s first album, Are You Experienced?, as well as their second album, Axis: Bold As Love, and the music from this stage of the guitarist’s career will form the cornerstone of the Experience Hendrix show.
Tickets for Experience Hendrix at the Saenger will go on sale this Friday, September 20 at 10am via Ticketmaster.
