New Orleans Jazz Orchestra member Ashin Parker led his new band Trumpet Mafia through a rendition of “Caravan” on a balcony overlooking Frenchmen Street for an exclusive OffBeat video.
Parker, who serves as musical director for the Trumpet Mafia, arranged the tune, which was composed by Juan Tizol and originally performed by Duke Ellington.
Trumpet Mafia members Branden Lewis, Alex Massa, Chris Cotton, Grayson Hackleman, James Williams, and Julian Addison dodged an afternoon thunderstorm on the balcony as their music rolled down Frenchmen Street, much to the delight of the crowd gathered below.
Trumpet Mafia has shows scheduled around New Orleans beginning with a performance at Tulane University on October 23. Until then, check out their Frenchmen Street session below.
