Thousands of volunteers will team up for a Day of Service on Thursday, July 2, as part of Essence Fest’s efforts to give back to the city of New Orleans.
The #BringTheLove campaign will focus on achievement for local youth, promoting literacy and healthy living.
Walmart and NOLA for Life will team with Essence for the event, which will commemorate the resilience of New Orleans 10 years post Hurricane Katrina.
Here is the schedule of events:
9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. New Orleans School Refurbishment
Plant flowers, paint classrooms, build play areas, and prep classrooms for the upcoming school year! Volunteer at your choice of three school locations throughout New Orleans (SCI Academy, KIPP Renaissance or KIPP Central City) and bring a book to educate a child!
1:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Health & Community Fair at Walmart New Orleans East
Get free health screenings, job resources, fun giveaways, celebrity meet & greets, legal aid and more.
“With our inaugural Essence Festival ‘Day of Service,’ we are celebrating the resilience of New Orleans 10 years after the damaging effects of Hurricane Katrina,” Essence President Michelle Ebanks said in a press release. “We are inviting all of our loyal festival attendees, partners and friends to join our mission to ‘Bring the Love’ by giving back to our youth, supporting healthy lifestyles and encouraging a love of reading.”
The first 1,000 volunteers will receive an exclusive Essence #BringTheLove T-shirt.
