British jazz and funk band The Filthy Six will make a stop in New Orleans for a show at the Balcony Music Club (BMC) on April 8.
Led by trumpeter Nick Etwell, who is known for his work with Mumford and Sons, The Filthy Six’s mix of Hammond organ, horn section and guitar rhythms is reminiscent of the funky soul-jazz sounds of Blue Note’s heyday.
The band is touring in support of their last studio album, More Filth, released March 18 on the Acid Jazz label. Their dates fit around the Mumford & Sons An Arrow Through The Hearlands tour, which comes to Zephyr Field in Metairie this Saturday, April 9.
In the past, this group of musicians has provided their services to national acts of the likes of Amy Winehouse, Tom Jones, Jill Scott, Mark Ronson, Jack White, David Axelrod, Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis, Antibalas and many more.
The Filthy Six will join New Orleans’ Soul Project at BMC on Friday at 9 p.m. Admission is free.
