Tickets to see legendary pianoman and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sir Elton John at the New Orleans Arena on Friday, March 21, 2014 are currently on sale. John’s last scheduled New Orleans date, a sold-out show set for the arena, was scuttled due to Hurricane Katrina. This concert comes in support of John’s latest studio (and thirtieth solo) effort The Diving Board and will showcase new songs as well as fan favorites and forgotten nuggets from his illustrious career.
Upon The Diving Board’s September 2013 release, the T-Bone Burnett-produced affair climbed to number 3 on the U.S. charts despite receiving mixed reviews. The album marked John’s second consecutive outing with Burnett, who, in 2010, helmed John and iconoclastic songwriter Leon Russell’s collaboration The Union. The Diving Board, which also features lyrics from John’s longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, returns John to the stripped-down, barroom balladry approach characteristic of his early-career / pre-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road productions and found on such classics as Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across the Water and Honky Chateau. In addition to The Diving Board’s release, September also saw John receive the first-ever Brits Icon award, an honor created to pay tribute to British artists who have made a “lasting impact” on its culture.
Tickets to John’s March 24 performance at the New Orleans Arena range from $17 to $137 and can be purchased via Ticketmaster online or by phone at (800) 745-3000. There is an 8-ticket limit per customer, and service charges do apply.
