“360 deals” in the music business are becoming increasingly common, fostering partnerships between artists and the industry. So what is a 360 record deal? In short, it’s a contract agreement between an artist and a record label that covers not only the traditional rights involved with sound recordings, but also includes publishing, merchandise, touring, and other ancillary income an artist earns in the entertainment industry.
Tulane Law School graduate and attorney Ryan Long will participate in an informative webinar on Tuesday, July 27, at 1:00 p.m. that’s hosted by the Ella Project to shed light on the intricacies of these deals and their potential impact on artists. The Ella Project will add this to their extensive list of music industry webinars that they hosted all year.
Ryan Long is a seasoned legal expert representing pioneering tech and media clients since 2006. Among his clientele are acclaimed Grammy award-winning artists like Ms. Chrisette Michele Payne, widely known as “Chrisette Michele,” and independent producers such as Mr. Ramble Jon Krohn, known as “RJD2,” the composer of the theme music for AMC’s Mad Men.
The webinar will delve into the following key aspects:
- Defining 360 Deals: Ryan will comprehensively explain what constitutes a 360 deal in the music industry. This will help attendees grasp these all-encompassing agreements’ underlying concepts and dynamics.
- Inclusion of Rights: Understanding the various rights typically included in 360 deals is essential for artists entering such agreements. Ryan will walk participants through the standard components of these deals and their implications on artists’ careers.
- Timing and Relevance: The webinar will address the opportune moments in an artist’s career when a 360 deal is beneficial. By exploring the right timing, artists can decide when to consider entering these arrangements.
- Critical Considerations for Artists: Ryan will highlight specific elements of 360 deals that artists should pay close attention to. These insights will empower artists to navigate negotiations with a more comprehensive understanding of their potential long-term implications.
The webinar aims to be an engaging and informative session for artists, music industry professionals, and anyone intrigued by the inner workings of the music business. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session, where they can seek clarification on any lingering queries.
