Eclectic jazz, rock and world music ensemble Troker will head to the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans for two very different nights of music. The group, who hail from the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, will take the stage at the CAC on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12.
The Friday night performance will accompany a screening of the classic Mexican silent film The Grey Automobile. This particular version of the 1919 film, which tells the tumultuous tale of police and outlaws in Mexico City, will feature a live score from Troker.
The band will then shift gears to their normal live set–a blend of avant-garde jazz, funk, progressive rock, mariachi and more– for Saturday night’s show. Opening for them will be Mike Dillon’s New Orleans Punk Rock Consortium, which will feature Stanton Moore, Brian Coogan, Simon Lott, Daria Dzurik, Michael Gourdin, Steven Montalvo, Jesse Paige, Otto Schrang, Paul Thibodeaux and Aaron Walker.
“Our concert called ‘Claroscuro’ is for all types of audiences interested in music–jazz, fusion, progressive, rock and world music,” said saxophonist Tiburon Santillanes. “Our compositions have a strong personality. It’s a high-energy show where no words are needed, the connection between the audience and band is all about soul empathy.”
“‘Troker & The Grey Automobile’ is about cinema and live music, just as it was a long time ago, but the band is never more important that the movie,” he added. “The only importance we have here is to make you feel in a determinate way…watching The Grey Automobile in your DVD will never feel the same as if you experience it with Troker.”
Tickets for both of Troker’s performances are now on sale.
